Matt LeBlanc on Breakfast Television

August 21st, 2010

I had the privilege to have a couple television interview this week. What a fun experience.  It gave me a chance to talk about my project and promote the foundation.   I had a blast.  I had to drive a total of 5 hours to meet with BT but it was worth.  Maria was such a sweetheart ! :0)

Wow !! 15,000$ raised is a lot of money !!

August 13th, 2010

Well today is Friday August 13 and there’s 41 days left in the Art for Life campaign.  It’s been a fun ride !!! I’ve met so many people and made a lot of contacts along the way and the whole thing has been a blast.  I’ve been busy lately planning my gala that will happen on September 24 at the new Dieppe Art & Culture Center.  I realized earlier this week that all the paintings from the campaign won’t fit in the 1,500 square feet gallery.  I was shocked !!! That made me realize how many pieces is involved in this campaign.  All of the 120 paintings that I sold are stored in bags and ready to be brought to the gallery but since they are spread out over my home, it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of them.  Guess again Mr. artist man!  I will most likely have to hang some paintings outside the main gallery to acommodate all 200 pieces but the place is definitely setup to do so.  Just a little bump in the road my friends.

So last night I sold my 120th painting which means I’ve surpassed the $15,000 milestone.  That’s absolutely amazing!!! I can’t thank you guys enough for the strong support I’ve been receiving since day one.  $15,000 is not bad for a one man show.  I can’t wait to find out how it will feel to go beyond my $25,000 goal.  Take that you evil disease !!!!!!!!!!

Have a great weekend et vive les Acadiens !!!

The Art for Life Campaign – One hundred and counting !!

July 6th, 2010

The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them. Even the most tedious chore will become endurable as you parade through each day convinced that every task, no matter how menial or boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams.

Og Mandino, author

I had a big victory on Sunday night when I’ve reached the 100th painting milestone.  It felt so great!  It’s a great feeling to realize that committing myself to one goal and chipping away every day will bring me victory.  I’m still behind in my campaign but I’ll keep chipping away until I get ahead and hit the 200th painting milestone.  This needs to be done before September 24th and that my friends will be my ultimate victory.

Thank you so much to everyone for all your great support!!

100 completed.  69 sold.  $8,675 raised

Here’s a video of the first 100 paintings.  Do you see yours in there? Which one is your favorite piece?

Art for Life Campaign – I can smell it !!

June 23rd, 2010

I can smell two things this morning and it’s not my feet. I can smell the milestone of 100 completed paintings.  I’m only 17 paintings away from reaching it.   I can also smell $10,000 raised for the cause, which I will reach when I collect another $2,575.  That’s a huge motivation for me right now.

Ever since I started this campaign, I’ve been focusing on not falling behind more than ten pieces.  With the crazy life I have that includes my family commitments, a full time job, my regular painting business and everything else that just pops up it would be easy to fall behind.  Last night, I went into my studio at 10:30 to complete a painting because if I didn’t, today I would have been 11 paintings behind in the schedule.  That many behind just wouldn’t be acceptable.

83 completed.  59 sold.  $7,425 raised

Art for Life Campaign – Still alive and kicking!

June 16th, 2010

Day 85 today.  I apologies for my lack of blogging.  My last post was almost two weeks ago.   I actually enjoy blogging and would love to do it everyday but I’m missing one key ingredient; time.  I also felt a little bit under the weather last week so this was the last thing on my mind.

Anyways, the campaign is progressing well.  It’s day 85 and I have 76 out of 200 completed.  I have a couple more almost done which I will complete tonight.  My biggest goal lately is to not fall behind more then 10 paintings.  That would be a bit scary but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.  I’m still very confident that I will reach m goal on time.

I made a lot of progress on the details for the Art for Life gala.  I think I have finally found the perfect venue but I can’t spill the beans until all the details are confirmed.  The date for now is still Friday September 24 which is the THE day when I will officially end my campaign.  It will be a very special day so why not have the gala on the same night?  I can’t wait to invite you all at what should be a very special night!

All the best,

Matt

Art for Life Campaign – Time for an Update

June 4th, 2010

Well it’s been a long and rough week for me but I made it to Friday.  My Lakers are in the finals as well and they won the first game last night so it’s a good start to the weekend.   I wanted to post a quick update about the campaign.   If you’re from the Saint John area of New Brunswick or just happen to see the local paper in your favorite corner store, be sure to look in the art section for a feature on the Art for Life campaign.  I had a great conversation with Kate Wallace and I’m really looking forward to read her article tomorrow morning.  Have a great weekend everyone !!

64 completed in 72 days.  42 sold.  $5,300 raised.

Social Media is Very Powerful

June 4th, 2010

By day I’m an agency account director and an abstract artist by night. My day job consists of managing multi million dollar advertising campaigns and I constantly discuss online marketing strategies with my clients.

The online world was turned upside down a few years ago with the introduction of Social Media. The Social Media bandwagon is not only for big businesses, but is it right for you?

The web is rapidly changing the way artists, proprietors and corporations do business and most importantly how we market our products.

Marketers used to be in control of the message. Now the consumer is definitely in control and they have a lot of power and influence.

Corporations have a harder time being social because they are so process oriented and have too much red tape inside their corporations stopping them to really open themselves up on Social Media channels. They are afraid to be “out there” because they think that the consumer will kill their brand.

News flash!!! Consumers are controlling your brand whether or not you’re on the Social Media bandwagon.

To me the Social Media world comes down to two key things:

  • content
    • You have to give a good reason for people to follow you and providing accurate and relevant content is key.
    • The key for any artist is to become a leader in their field and to provide good, accurate and related content to their peers.
  • relationships
    • It’s not the amount of relationship that’s important. It’s the quality of them.
    • More and more consumers are asking their peers online about business decisions.
    • think in terms of quality over quantity

Social Media is very powerful.  I was watching a back & forth conversation on Facebook the other night where one of my friend had inquired about a landscaping company. She got convinced within 5 minutes by her peers to drop that company and go with a more reputable & affordable company. You can see right here the power of relationships.

More people are using the web to interact with each other and seek niche specific and useful content. Twitter is becoming a huge database of content vs. status updates, which is the way it first started.

There are two places where artists mostly fail in the social world:

  • trying to do too much
  • and not providing enough of relevant content.

I see a lot of artists posting their recent artwork over and over again.  If they have existing consumers following them and they are not really looking to buy at the moment, these buyers will start ignoring the posts.  However, if they would take the time to post about something other then their recent work, they might keep engaging the potential buyers and keep them for the long run. It doesn’t have to be complicated. They just need to provide the right content and not too often.  It’s still good to post the recent work but it should be part of the mix and not the focus.

Many bandwagons are about trying to sell you something and often something you don’t want. But, if you can become a professional at providing everything about your product, your process and your industry, then you don’t have to sell your product anymore. Your customers will come to you because you have built an image for yourself and your brand is strong enough to make the sale.
