Signed, sealed, delivered ...

Buying a signed piece of original art is your assurance that it's an original piece of art and not a print.  Adding my signature to a painting is like adding a stamp that says "finished. It shows that I'm satisfied with the painting and no longer consider it a work in progress. Some artists prefer signing the front of their artwork, or even hiding their signature in the painting itself. I've been signing all my paintings on the back of the canvas -- I've always felt that signing the front of the canvas creates and imbalance in the painting.

That being said, I've been debating this issue ever since I started painting. It took one client to really make me change my mind. She literally begged me to sign the front of her commissioned painting. Seeing as I'm such a softie (don't ask my wife!), I've decided to take the plunge and started signing the fronts of my paintings. I'm not completely used to it yet, but I have a lifetime to get there.

On a completely different subject, I'm in the process of building a new home -- which means a new studio. Keep an eye out for future newsletters to see pictures of the progress...

Happy June !!!

In your home ...
For this month "in your home" section, I thought I would feature two paintings that are going to be part of grand prize for the Hand In Hand Dream Lottery.  This wonderful fundraiser is a dual effort launched by the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation and the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital Foundation to raise $600,000 for patient care equipment.  The four bedroom, three bathroom, two car garage "Dream Home" built by Terramine Developments is located at 16 Maurice St., boasts more than 4,000 sq. ft. of living space, and comes fully furnished ($700,000 value).
