The First Ten Paintings

Today is day 39 of the Art for Life Campaign. First and foremost, I want to wish a very warm welcome and send out a big thank you to all the new members of my newsletter that have supported my campaign by purchasing a painting. Your support is very much appreciated!

It feels like the campaign has been going on forever, so it's hard to imagine that I'm still 145 days away from THE day.

The past 39 days have been full of excitement for me. As you know, my primary goal for this campaign is to create 200 paintings in 184 days. I never thought that I would actually have the chance to sell most of the paintings within the same time period. I'm not sure that it will happen, but right now it's looking like a real possibility. I've completed 37 paintings so far, and 26 of them have already been sold. That means I've raised $3,250 so far for the the cause. I've never had any doubt in my mind about producing all the paintings, but I did have a few "what if I can't sell them all" moments when I was planning this campaign.

I'm really overwhelmed by the response so far. I had heard and witnessed many times how people have big hearts and they are never shy to open their wallets to support a good cause. This surely confirms that statement in my mind.

One thing that I didn't anticipate when I started my campaign was people sharing their stories with me. I've heard many sad stories in the past five weeks from people who have lost loved ones to cancer. Although their stories make me sad, all the people I've heard from are so upbeat and have a positive attitude. Very often in the stories I hear, there's a silent hero that rises to the occasion and spins a negative into a positive. A true hero knows how and when to shine. The people we have lost over the years are real heroes.
These stories are even more motivation for me to succeed with my campaign. I constantly think about the loved ones I've lost, but hearing the stories from the donors is another thing that makes me want to surpass my personal goals.

Thanks again to all the donors and supporters of the Matt LeBlanc Art for Life Campaign.

All the best,

Matt

Everything old is new again

Lately you may have noticed that old things are making a comeback in the decorating world. Well, not so much old things per se - it's more like a new spin on old things.

Wallpaper has made a huge comeback over the last year or so. It's wallpaper with a fresh & modern twist - funky patterns and juicy colours are popping up on walls everywhere. If you want to jump on the wallpaper bandwagon but don't want to make a big commitment, why not buy a few rolls and create an accent wall in your dining room or bedroom or paper the back of a glass cabinet.

Old-style Belgian design is super-hot right now too. If you check out the Restoration Hardware web site, you'll see what I mean. Woods that have a rustic look and soft patina, furniture and cushions covered in linen, wine barrel chandeliers...

The good thing is, you don't have to live in Belgium to be on-trend. As I mentioned, Restoration Hardware has a huge collection of Belgian-inspired furniture. On a budget but still want the Belgian look?? Check out your local HomeSense.

And speaking of decorating on a budget... another hot trend is to buy second-hand furniture and give it a facelift. A fresh coat of paint on a dresser or new fabric on a chair seat cushion can give new life to an old piece. And what about this idea - why not give an old dresser new life as a bathroom vanity?

You can find inexpensive furniture for sale on Craigslist and Kijiji. And when you buy something used, you're keeping the piece out of the landfill. Good for your wallet and for the environment.
