Every business needs to be innovative in order to survive. Innovation by definition is to revolutionize changes in thinking, products, processes, or organizations. One of the things I love the most about painting abstract art is the ability to constantly innovate the style of my artwork. Another way for me to innovate is to create new products to expand my customer base and to keep all of you interested in my work. I have plans to introduce three new products in 2010. I will cover them in detail in subsequent newsletters. Just to give you an idea, I'm currently working on a product especially for nurseries - I should have pictures in my next newsletter. The other two will be a surprise. You like surprises, right?! Have yourself a great fall season!!! Sincerely, Matt

Gotta love it!

A friend and I went to the Home & Design Show on Friday. We happened to get there just in time to listen to a talk by Canadian designer, Kimberley Seldon. She took us through a little exercise where she showed us slides of a bunch of rooms, and we had to yell out "Love it!" or "Hate it!" for each room. There was one room that got a resounding "Hate it!" (it really was bad!!), but opinion was divided on the rest.
The point behind the exercise was to show us that there isn't a right way or wrong way to decorate a room. We all have different tastes, and we should all decorate our homes according to what we love, not what's trendy or what someone told us to do. If your gut tells you to paint your dining room red, but a decorator tells you that red is out, which would you listen to? Here's a hint - you live with your gut, not your decorator!!
Which is the other lesson Kimberley taught us - when you look at a room, it doesn't take much more than a second or two to decide if you love it or hate it. If you're not sure how you feel about it within those few seconds, you don't love it. You might not hate it, but you don't love it - and if you don't love it, then don't do it.
How you decorate your home is an expression of you. It should reflect who you are, where you've been, what you love. Surround yourself with items that are important to you. Paint your walls the colours that make you happy and feel good. It's your home, make it a place you love to be J
